What happens in Ephesians 3:20?
This verse praises God as the one who can do far more than people ask or even think to ask. It does not present human ability as the source of this work, but God's power already active in believers. In the surrounding prayer, Paul has asked that the church be strengthened, rooted in love, and filled with God's fullness. Verse 20 turns that prayer into confidence: God is not limited by our words, plans, or imagination.
Ephesians 3 comes after Paul's teaching about God's saving plan for Jews and Gentiles in one people. In 3:17-21, Paul closes his prayer for spiritual strength and deeper knowledge of Christ's love. Verse 20 stands at the center of this closing praise, leading into a final statement of glory to God in the church and in Christ Jesus.
