Galatians 6:9 Bible Verse: Text, Meaning, and Context

Galatians 6:9 speaks to anyone who feels tired from doing the right thing. It urges steady faithfulness, especially when results are slow. The verse points to a coming harvest and calls believers to keep going without losing heart.

What happens in Galatians 6:9?

In this part of Galatians, Paul follows his warning about sowing and reaping with a direct encouragement to keep doing good. He tells believers not to become exhausted in faithful service, because the right outcome will come in its proper time. The verse is paired with a wider call to help others, especially fellow believers, and to live by the Spirit rather than the flesh. It offers hope that perseverance in good work is not wasted.

Galatians 6 closes Paul's letter with practical instruction after his main teaching on freedom in Christ, life in the Spirit, and opposition to legalism. In verses 6 to 12, he moves from the principle of sowing and reaping to a final call for consistent good works. Verse 9 sits between the warning about consequences and the appeal to keep serving others.

  • PerseveranceFaithful people are urged to keep doing what is right even when they feel tired.
  • HarvestGood work is not meaningless, because God will bring a fitting result in his time.
  • Doing goodThe verse encourages practical service that continues through normal life and hard seasons.

Galatians 6

6Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word must share in all good things with his instructor.

7Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return.8The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.9Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith.

Final Warnings and Blessings

11See what large letters I am using to write to you with my own hand!12Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. They only do this to avoid persecution for the cross of Christ.
