Isaiah 43:19 Bible Verse: Text, Meaning, and Context

Isaiah 43:19 gives hope when life feels dry or blocked. God speaks of a new work already beginning, one that opens a path where none seemed possible and brings life to places marked by need. It invites readers to notice what God is doing now.

What happens in Isaiah 43:19?

In this verse, God announces that he is bringing something new for his people. The change is not only future, but already underway, though it may be easy to miss. The image is vivid: a road through wilderness and water in a desert. In the surrounding verses, this promise stands beside memories of God's past acts of rescue, showing that the same Lord who made a way before can still provide for his chosen people now.

This verse appears in a section where the Lord reminds Israel of his power, past rescue, and present faithfulness. The surrounding passage contrasts old deliverance from danger with a new act of provision. It also leads into a call for God's people to respond with praise, while exposing their weariness and lack of calling on him.

  • New workGod promises to do something fresh, even when the situation looks unchanged.
  • Provision in hardshipThe wilderness and desert images show God supplying what his people need in hard places.
  • Seeing God's actionThe verse asks whether the people can recognize what God is already bringing about.
  • What new thing might God be doing that I have not yet noticed?
  • How does the promise of a way in the wilderness speak to my current situation?
  • What does this passage teach about trusting God for provision in hard seasons?

Isaiah 43

16Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea

and a path through the surging waters,

17who brings out the chariots and horses,

the armies and warriors together,

to lie down, never to rise again;

to be extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:

18“Do not call to mind the former things;

pay no attention to the things of old.

19Behold, I am about to do something new;

even now it is coming. Do you not see it?

Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness

and streams in the desert.

20The beasts of the field will honor Me,

the jackals and the ostriches,

because I provide water in the wilderness

and rivers in the desert,

to give drink to My chosen people.

21The people I formed for Myself

will declare My praise.

Israel’s Unfaithfulness

22But you have not called on Me, O Jacob,

because you have grown weary of Me, O Israel.
