Psalm 91:10 Bible Verse: Text, Meaning, and Context

Psalm 91:10 is part of a promise of protection for those who trust in the Lord as their refuge. It speaks to fear, danger, and God's care in times when harm feels near.

What happens in Psalm 91:10?

In this verse, the psalmist says that evil will not defeat the one who has made the Lord their dwelling place. The line continues the assurance given in the surrounding verses that danger may be all around, yet God's protection remains over His people. The setting includes warnings about harm, plague, and threats from every side, but the focus stays on God's guarding presence. The verse offers calm confidence, not because trouble is absent, but because the Lord is trusted as refuge.

Psalm 91 is a psalm of trust centered on God as a shelter and safe place. In verses 7-13, the writer contrasts surrounding danger with the security found in the Lord's care. Psalm 91:10 sits in the middle of that promise, linking the believer's refuge in God with His protection from harm.

Psalms 91

7Though a thousand may fall at your side,

and ten thousand at your right hand,

no harm will come near you.

8You will only see it with your eyes

and witness the punishment of the wicked.

9Because you have made the LORD your dwelling—

my refuge, the Most High—

10no evil will befall you,

no plague will approach your tent.

11For He will command His angels concerning you

to guard you in all your ways.

12They will lift you up in their hands,

so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13You will tread on the lion and cobra;

you will trample the young lion and serpent.
